Summary Gastroesophageal reflux and regurgitation are amongst the most common phenomena of the infancy. The most important components of the pathophysiology are the developing anatomy, the characteristic motility, the quantitative and qualitative difference of the nutrients, and the early life style (supine recumbent position, long sleeping period), etc. GER is generally accepted as a normal physiological symptom, however under special genetic, anatomic, motility and immune circumstances it could develop chronic GERD and plays an important role in several organic manifestations. As in the case of GER it is sufficient to provide the parents with feeding and caring advice, the therapy of GERD is the same as for adults.
